Stanbic Bank Uganda has appointed Kenneth Mumba Kalifungwa as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1st March 2025.

Mumba, a seasoned banker, brings close to 30 years of professional experience, 20 of which have been in senior leadership roles within the banking sector. His expertise spans business development, risk management, strategy formulation, and financial planning, with a footprint across Botswana, Zambia, and Uganda over the last five years.

Currently, Mumba is the Managing Director of Absa Bank Uganda, a role he has held with distinction. In an official statement, Stanbic Bank Uganda lauded his extensive experience, noting:

“Mumba brings to our team nearly 30 years of post-qualification experience, 20 of which have been dedicated to the banking sector, mostly in senior leadership roles covering business development, risk management, strategy formulation, and finance strategy in three African markets: Botswana, Zambia, and for the last five years, Uganda.”

The statement further expressed confidence in his leadership: “Given this broad experience and his recent work in the country, the board is confident that the bank will continue to thrive under Mumba’s leadership as we pursue our purpose of driving Uganda’s growth.”

Before his tenure as Managing Director at Absa Bank Uganda, Mumba served as Chief Financial Officer at Absa Bank Botswana Limited since 2015, and prior to that, he held the same role in Zambia.

A Chartered Accountant with over 24 years of post-qualification experience, Mumba is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA), and the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA). He holds an MBA from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland and has completed various senior leadership development programmes.

He succeeds Anne Jjuuko, who earlier this year transitioned to Nairobi as the Eastern African Regional Head of Global Markets for Standard Bank Group. Mumba’s wealth of experience is expected to steer Stanbic Bank Uganda towards continued success.
