Ekkula Tourism Awards 2018 Launched

According to minister Kiwanda, the awards ceremony is to recognize and appreciate exceptional persons and institutions that have one way or another played an outstanding role in promoting tourism.

The 3rd edition of Ekkula Pearl of Africa Tourism Awards is back with a bang.

State minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi on Tuesday launched Ekkula Pearl of Africa Tourism Awards 2018 during a media briefing at Uganda Media Centre. Kiwanda was flanked by the organisers of the Awards and Challa Elma Kapel, Miss Tourism Uganda Queen and 1st runner up Gertrude Amuge Olungura.

This year's awards ceremony will take place on March 29, 21018 at Pearl of Africa Hotel in Kampala. 

According to minister Kiwanda, the awards ceremony is to recognize and appreciate exceptional persons and institutions that have one way or another played an outstanding role in promoting tourism.

"These awards are to recognize and appreciate such persons to motivate them and make them more patriotic," Kiwanda said.

This 3rd edition of Ekkula Pearl of Africa Tourism Awards 2018 will be celebrated under the theme "celebrating tourism in the cultural diversity."

"We look forward to celebrating together on that day, interacting and forging better ways in areas where we have not performed well," Kiwanda added.   

"I call upon Ugandans to be receptive so that we attract as many tourists as possible.  Let's be positive about our country because East or West, home is best."

The year's awards ceremony has 25 categories among them include; Best Cuisine Restaurant, Best travel magazine, Best tourism promotion, Tourism destination of the Year, Outstanding tourism personality, Tourism event of the year and others.
