Ugandans in America Urged to Demand US Meddling in Ugandan Internal Affairs

Ugandans living in the United States of America are being urged to make calls to their representatives in a bid to encourage US meddling in the internal affairs of Uganda ahead of the 2021 general elections.

According to a notice addressed to ‘community members’ which the Kampala Post has seen, they have been encouraged by one Madam Andrea Baron to call their Senators asking them to co-sponsor Senator Robert Manendez motion on Uganda.

The Ugandans are even guided on particulars of what they have to say in their calls or voice recordings!

At least 1,000 calls are required for the motion and the telephone numbers to call are also availed to the Ugandans.

According to the plotters, those sending messages are encouraged to state that they have lost relatives in the recent riots.

They go ahead to instruct the callers to claim that they are worried that “if the United States Government does not intervene, more people will die.”

 “Please don’t mind about your immigration status, your English accent or voice, all we want is to have your call counted. If your call goes to a voice machine please don’t hang up, but leave a voice message,” the message to the Ugandans states.

It should be remembered that last month, following the arrest of Robert Kyagulanyi for continued flouting of campaign guidelines aimed at curbing the deadly COVID-19, violent demonstrations characterized by robbery erupted in Kampala and other towns.

The rioters burnt roads using old car tires, attacked people wearing yellow clothes associated with the NRM party and President Museveni.

While others unleashed violence on the people believed to support the party in government, the rest erected illegal roadblocks and ordered innocent Ugandans to pay before they could be allowed to proceed to their destinations.

Subsequently, the police with the help of sister security agencies intervened and restored normalcy. However, about fifty people lost their lives in the fracas.

After calm had been restored, President Yoweri Museveni revealed that outsiders are facilitating some groups of people with ill intentions of destabilizing the country. 

Museveni went ahead to warn that the hooligans who are beating up peaceful Ugandans and vandalizing their property will soon be dealt with. 

“Some of these groups are being used by outsiders who don't like the stability and independence of Uganda but will discover what they are looking for," Mr Museveni.

In one of the video clips, one supporter of Bobi Wine who has since been identified and arrested is seen attacking a female police officer and hitting her several times with a hammer. In other videos, the hooligans are seen mounting illegal roadblocks, destroying campaign materials of NRM candidates and robbing passengers and other road users in broad daylight.

Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations and Commander of the Ugandan Special Forces recently said that: "The colonialists are trying to change their stripes but every African patriot knows who they are! 'Nkosi Sikelel iAfrica'. God bless Africa! Africans shall ALWAYS defeat those who seek to dominate them."

Gen Kainerugaba was responding to Bobi Wine's lawyer and mobilizer Robert Amsterdam's tweet in which he said that the diplomatic community is quiet about the political climate in Uganda. 

Relatedly, Mr Okello-Oryem, the State Minister for International Relations last week described the move by the schemers as a “regrettable desperation by some members seeking the presidency to overthrow the government by using foreign forces.”

“We know this for a fact; those individuals know very well they stand no chance at the presidency, so they are using some of those naïve senators but they will not succeed in their attempts,” Mr Oryem told a local newspaper.
