Top UPDF leaders were on Sunday left tunned at the skills exhibited at Busiika Motocross Arena (BMA) where they witnessed the first ever international motocross event organized to appreciate the work done by the Ugandan armed forces to keep Uganda safe and secure.
The occasion attracted reknown national and international riders from Belgium, DRC, France, Germany, Israel, South Africa, USA and the host Uganda.
While flagging off the race, the Chief of Defence Forces General David Muhoozi thanked the organisers of the race for taking a unique step of appreciating the Armed Forces.
"We have and shall continue to serve Ugandans and continue to make Uganda safe for everyone to contribute to the prosperity of the country, East Africa and Africa in general. We are even more energized and our morale is high to see private entities coming up to appreciate us. We rarely get such events to honour us. On behalf of all Armed forces, I say thank you and Alluta continua," said General Muhoozi.
The CDF added that UPDF supports the talents of its officers and militants and that is why recently Uganda emerged the best in the EAC military games held in Kenya.
The Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba expressed gratitude following the inaugural motocross championship that was organized to appreciate the work of the armed forces.
"Today, it was my pleasure to join the CDF and other senior UPDF officers at the first ever 'Armed Forces Appreciation Motocross Championship'. It's the first ever in Africa. I thank the Federation of Motorsports of Uganda (FMU) for a colourful and thrilling event," Gen Kainerugaba tweeted after witnessing the event.
Meanwhile, the CDF invited all corporate entities to partner with the UPDF in other activities that benefit the population including the annual celebrations of Armed Forces day.
The Vice President Motocross Uganda, Mr. Barack Orland thanked the Armed Forces for accepting the offer and promised to stay the course and have the event held annually.
He thanked the sponsors of the event and urged them to always actively get engaged with the UPDF and other sister agencies to encourage them to continue offering excellent services.
Among the UPDF Generals who attended the Motocross event include Lt Gen Peter Elwelu the Commander Land Forces, the General Officer Commanding Reserve Forces Lt Gen Charles Otema Awany, the Land Forces Chief of Staff Maj General Leopold Kyanda, Chiefs, Directors, Senior officers of UPDF and other sister security agencies among others.
