GULU. Gulu Magistrates Court has adjourned the hearing of a treason case against Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) and 32 others.
Members of Parliament; Kyagulanyi, Arua MP Kassiano Wadri, Gerald Karuhanga (Ntungamo Municipality), Paul Mwiru (Jinja East) and others were on Monday granted bail by the Gulu High court, following their arrest and detention over Arua Municipality campaign chaos.
During the chaos on August 13, the opposition supporters purportedly attacked the President’s convoy smashing one of the vehicle’s rear screens. The accused were charged with treason and remanded until August 30(today) when they were supposed to reappear in court.
However, Gulu Grade One Magistrate Yunus Ndiwalana pushed the matter to October 1. He said court had no jurisdiction to hear the treason case, which is a capital offence.
Meanwhile, MPs Kyagulanyi, Mwiru and Karuhanga did not show up at court.
Apart from MP Kyagulanyi who is admitted at Rubaga Hospital, it is not clear why the other Members of Parliament snubbed today’s court session.
