The Electoral Commission (EC) extended the deadline for nomination of candidates for Local Government Council elections, citing a high number of aspirants that turned up for the exercise.
Initially, the exercise was to run from September 1 to October 1, but now the EC says it has added four more days, implying the activity will end on Monday, Oct. 5.
"... due to high numbers of aspirants at the nomination centers since the beginning of the exercise, and in accordance with the power vested in the Commission under Section 50 of the Electoral Commission Act, the Electoral Commission has taken a decision to extend the nomination exercise, which was scheduled to close on Thursday, 1st October 2020," reads a statement issued by Simon Byabakama, the EC chairman.

The posts that are being vied for are district/city chairpersons, district/city councils, municipality/city division chairpersons, municipality/city division councilors, sub-county/town/municipal division chairpersons, and sub-county/town/municipal division councilors.
