The government will set up an ICT and innovation center in Karamoja, President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the NRM flag bearer in the presidential race, said Friday while campaigning in the region.

The innovation hub will shore up domestic technology development, research, and innovation.

It’s important to note that the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation is already in the process of constructing 42 incubation hubs and science industrial parks across the country.

These hubs are to be affiliated with universities.

The hubs will have business, value addition, biotechnology, and science promotion centers.

While meeting with youth leaders from the Karamoja sub-region in Moroto, the president assured them that his government will roll out “youth projects and Saccos to create jobs and capital acquisitions”.

He also urged them to “prioritize working for peace, take advantage of government programs and engage in income-generating ventures, fear God and live a responsible lifestyle,” the presidency said in a statement.

As he left Karamoja for the Teso sub-region, the president took time off to commission the new Soroti-Akisim-Moroto road.

“This road will greatly boost the economic fortunes of Karamoja sub-region,” he said.
