President Yoweri Museveni has revealed that outsiders are facilitating some groups of people with ill intention of destabilizing the country.
Museveni warned that the hooligans who are beating up peaceful Ugandans and vandalizing their property will soon be dealt with.
“They have entered an area of fighting we know very well. Whoever started it will regret. Some of these groups are being used by outsiders who don't like the stability and independence of Uganda, but will discover what they are looking for," Museveni while campaigning in Karamoja sub region.
Supporters of NUP Presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi on Wednesday staged several violent protests in Kampala and other districts characterized by vandalism, robbery and beating up of whoever was wearing yellow clothings. This was after the arrest of Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine for constantly flouting COVID-19 guidelines.
In one of the video clips circulating on social media, NUP hooligan who has since been identified and arrested is seen attacking a female police officer and hitting her several times with a hammer. In other videos, the hooligans are seen mounting illegal roadblocks, destroying campaign materials of NRM candidates and robbing passengers and other road users in broad day light.
Museveni has warned to crush the thugs who are attacking NRM people saying that their intention is to disrupt the electoral process.
“Those who have been attacking NRM people in Kampala will soon lose that appetite. You will see uniform of NRM and won’t touch it. Even if they abandon it you won’t touch it. They want to create violence so that elections are not held. Elections will continue," he said.
