Museveni Warns Artists Against Using Their Talents to Sow Divisions Based on Lies
President Yoweri Museveni has asked musicians and other artists not to use their music to sow divisions among the people based on lies.
The President who was attending Catherine Kusasira's concert at the Kampala Serena Hotel last evening said that he was thrilled as he attended the show, noting that he is always happy to see Ugandans having a good time in a peaceful environment.
"Last night (at Catherine Kusasira's show) was the third time I have been to a music concert and I was thrilled to see Ugandans enjoying themselves in a peaceful environment," the President said in a tweet Saturday morning.
He, however, advised musicians to use their talents to promote unit as opposed to discord based on lies.
"While at the Catherine Kusasira concert, I implored artistes to use their talents in ways that do not sow divisions based on lies. I also pledged government's effort towards working against all the threats and crimes against Uganda and her people," the President said in another tweet.
On his Facebook page, the president elaborated his message;
I attended the Catherine Kusasira musical show at Kampala Serena Hotel. This was the third time I have been to a music concert and I am thrilled to see Ugandans, especially my Bazukulu enjoying themselves in a peaceful environment.
The artists sang for me in Munyonyo sometime back, then the second time I was at the show was during the concert for my son Bebe Cool. Ugandan artists have no doubt been able to get creative and their talents have blossomed.
This is good for entertainment and business, but should never be to the detriment of strides made in bringing our country out being a failed state. For example, I disagree with one of the singers who was saying "Bizeemu", as if to say that this NRM government is committing crimes against its people!
I advise the artists to use their talents in ways that do not sow divisions based on lies. The government of Uganda is working against all the threats and crimes against Uganda and her people.
Indeed, this is not the first time the President is attending a music concert. Last year, Mr. Museveni attended Bebe Cool's concert at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds where he hailed the young people for their innovativeness in music.
“I am pleased to see my grandchildren enjoying peacefully without interruption. This is what we have reaped from peaceful governance of NRM since its inception in 1986. The music innovation, through its creativity and vigour can also be marketed beyond boundaries,” the President said then.
He added: “I congratulate you singers and artistes for taking the advantage and enjoying the peace we have in the country and developing your talents. If you are in a country like Somalia you cannot have this, one cannot reap what one has not sown."
He said that the discipline in the armed forces in the country has enabled Uganda to harvest peace.
