Former security minister Lt Gen (Rtd) Henry Tumukunde has made his first public appearance hours after his sacking.

Tumukunde made a rare appearance at the funeral service of late Maj. Ian Kangaho, nephew to First Lady Janet Museveni at All Saints' Cathedral, Nakasero. Maj. Kangaho,55, died of lung cancer at Kampala International Hospital (IHK).

During the funeral service that was attended by President Yoweri Museveni, Tumukunde who was in company of his wife looked so firm and unbothered about his sacking. He spent a bigger part of his morning chatting with his neighbouring congregants and often smiled widely.

Even after the mass, Tumukunde shared warm pleasantries with part of the congregation, especially First Son Maj Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Presidential adviser on special operations and John Nasasira, former ICT minister among others.

When our reporter attempted to chat him up for a comment regarding his sacking, Tumukunde said that there is nothing to talk about for now.

"It has happened so there is nothing else to talk about at this moment," Tumukunde said as he laughed.

"I will talk to you when the right moment comes. Most probably I will pronounce myself before end of business today. Just watch the space," Tumukunde added as he embarked in his official car and chauffeured away.

President Museveni on Sunday evening announced a huge security reshuffle where he sacked Tumukunde as security minister and replaced him with Gen Elly Tumwine. He also sacked Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura and replaced him with Ochola Okoth who has been his deputy. New IGP Ochola will be deputized by Brig. Sabiiti Muzeei.
