The Uganda Police Force has rubbished as false media reports on a plot to kill Assistant Inspector of Police (AIGP) Grace Turyagumanawe.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga described the reports as “a coordinated effort to destroy the character of the officer and further attempt to manipulate public sentiment against him through negative publicity.”
Enanga’s statement followed a Redpepper newspaper story of February 20, 2019 titled, “Mafia Plots to Kill Police Chief.”
The Police Spokesperson said the report is false and unfounded.
“We wish to add that the alleged plot to kill is not even being investigated as claimed because it’s unfounded,” Enanga said, punching holes in the newspaper article.
“The story which has several gaps in the narrative, doesn’t reveal any informed account of the alleged plot to assassinate the Director, Peace and Support Operations, AIGP Grace Turyagumanawe, but is instead aligned towards smearing the officer.”
The police management has instead encouraged AIGP Turyagumanawe, who has always been in the war torn Somalia for Police Peace operations, not to be intimidated.
