Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has ordered Government Ministries, Agencies and Departments to stop secretly financing activities of Parliament Committees.

While chairing Plenary on Tuesday, Oulanyah revealed how he had received credible information that Parliamentary committees are being secretly funded by MDAs to be "soft" on them.

Oulanyah said that this act tantamount to undermining the independence and authority of Parliament, thus affecting the legislators' performance in as far as their oversight roles are concerned.

The directive has been directed to MDAs, Committee Chairpersons, Vice Chairpersons and Clerks of Committees.

Unverified reports show that some committees induce MDAs to facilitate their field visits. In some cases, the MDAs 'voluntary' to finance some committee activities.

In a bid to emphasize the roles and responsibilities of legislators and other issues, Oulanyah said that all MPs will undergo general induction starting on Monday, 27 September 2021.
