Law enforcement operations in Mbarara have been boosted with a new regional call centre that will serve four policing regions, namely: Rwizi, Greater Bushenyi, Kigezi and Rwenzori East.

The centre, which is based at the Mbarara Central Police Station, will be running 24/7.

SP Moses Ekudot from the Directorate of ICT Police Headquarters on Wednesday kicked off the training of cops that will be manning the facility.

The training will end today, according to Rwizi Region Police Spokesman Samson Kasasira.

The spokesman says the centre will be operational 24hours a day with a toll-free number 999 for all networks at zero cost.

It was rolled out to help “members of the Public reach Police for timely responses to incidents and emergencies within the regions mentioned.”

Police has warned people that plan to misuse this service by giving police false information and attacking Uganda Police Force as an institution, saying they will be apprehended and charged accordingly.
