Police on Tuesday recovered three unexploded grenades from a construction site at Lithuli Avenue, Bugolobi in Nakawa Division.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says the first rusty tortoise grenade was sighted by construction workers at a one Musisi’s plot of land and they alerted the police, which later found two more upon assessing the area.
“The workers went trying to get soil samples for planned construction, they came across a bomb. They informed him (Musisi) and he later contacted Jinja Road Police station, who visited the scene and called Counter-Terrorism Bomb Squad Unit,” Onyango said.
“Counter-Terrorism Officers on assessing the area, they got two others. They decided to carry out a controlled explosion on one which was too risky to transport and took two with them. There were no injuries, no property destroyed and no death registered,” he explained, ending social media speculation about a bomb blast.
It’s alleged that the explosives have been abandoned for years, however, Musisi recently acquired the plot and is currently setting out to develop it. The police have commended the construction workers for being vigilant and urged people to always report any suspicious objects in their environment to Police.”
