President Museveni Upgrades Commando Battalion to Brigade
President Yoweri Museveni who is also the Commander of the Armed Forces has upgraded the Commando Battalion to now a Brigade after passing out 1,256 new commando soldiers.
The Commando Brigade is a specialized unit under the Special Forces Command and is charged with carrying out specialized operations.
After being taken through demonstrations of various manoeuvres by the new commando soldiers, President Museveni expressed satisfaction with the quality of training and skills acquired by the soldiers before thanking them for their great operational track record.
Some of the demonstrations included troops insertion in the combat area, marksmanship where the president observed lady commandos in action and attack as well as shooting targets at 500m and concealment. The President also witnessed a demonstration by the commandos as they exhibited skills required for fighting in built-up areas.
The President has previously noted that it is because of such specialized and highly skilful units that the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) was completely defeated in 2007 as well as the Al Shabaab militants in Mogadishu.
Recently, the President praised the commandos for ensuring a peaceful electoral process as they dealt with new schemes of criminality involving rioting, attacks on buildings, innocent civilians and security personnel.
The pass out ceremony was attended by Gen David Muhoozi who is the Chief of Defence Forces and the Commander of the Special Forces Command Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba who is also the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations.
President Museveni also presented awards to the best students including for their outstanding performance in different aspects of their training.
