StarTimes Uganda on Thursday unveiled a mega Shs28.1 billion (US$7,240,000) sponsorship deal for the Uganda Premier League and FUFA Big league.
The tournaments will now be called the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and the StarTimes FUFA Big League with effect from the next season.
The games of the leagues in question will also be broadcast on StarTimes on a yet to be named channel.
Speaking at the deal unveiling event held at Hotel Africana, StarTimes Uganda CEO Andy Wang was excited to partner with the league.
''We want to promote local football and hence bring it to everyone, everywhere in the world,'' Wang noted.
FUFA President Moses Magogo could not hide his excitement and heaped a lot of praise on StarTimes for such a hefty deal.
''Serious investors invest for long and it’s the reason this partnership is 10 years. This is a huge investment in Ugandan football,'' Magogo noted.
Arinaitwe Rugyendo, the Uganda Premier League Chairperson noted that he is glad to be part of history and is very happy with this new development.
''This is a very big day in the history of Ugandan football and we are thankful to StarTimes. It is a very big gesture that they surely love sports,'' Rugyendo noted.
The deal implies that StarTimes have also secured exclusive right for the title and broadcasting rights of the leagues for the next ten years.
