Third group of Ugandans repatriated from Rwanda
A group of 80 Ugandan nationals, including children, have been repatriated from Rwanda, according to the High Commission of Uganda in Kigali.
This is the third group, and it brings the total of returnees from Rwanda to 370.
“The Embassy undertook the registration and verification processes and coordinated their return aboard three (3) Volcano buses and one private vehicle from Kigali through Gatuna/Katuna border destined for Kampala,” officials said.
Anne Katusiime, the Charge d'Affairs, noted that this was the last group of Ugandans that were stranded in Rwanda due to the closure of borders.
“Other Ugandan nationals in Rwanda will have to wait until the situation is normal,” she said. The fleet was flagged off from the official premises of the High Commission in Kacyiru at 9am and were escorted to Gatuna/Katuna border by the High Commission officials and leaders of the Association of Ugandans in Rwanda (AUR) led by Issah Boogere, the chairman.
On arriving in Kampala, they will be quarantined by the ministry of Health.
