Eight unidentified thugs on Thursday broke into offices of a Nongovernmental Organization DO!NG GOOD in Bulange, Rubaga Division in Kampala, stole office property and money. The thugs also beat up the NGO staff  and injured five of them.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says the incident happened at around 3:30am. Onyango says, armed with breaking implements “The thugs gained access to the premises by jumping over the perimeter fence and beat up the local watchmen that were guarding the place.”

He explains that the gang broke the doors and started assaulting other staff inside. There were fourteen staff at the time. Those injured include three Dutch nationals; Lauren January (23), Elra Hoi (20) and Eron Buo (19), all females. Others are Ugandans; Patrick Komakech and Ivan Tenywa, all night watchmen.

Onyango says the injured staff were evacuated in the police ambulance and taken to Nakasero Hospital. Shs26million was stolen, eight laptops, nine mobile phones and jewelry. “Detectives are at the scene to gather evidence that could have been left behind by the thugs, to guide in our ongoing investigations,” Onyango said.

He added that one suspect has been arrested to help in police investigation. Police say it’s premature to reveal the suspect’s identity, since it could jeopardize investigations.
