Two students of Universe College Bulemwa in Hoima and their school patron died on spot after being knocked by a speeding vehicle on Tuesday evening.
The accident occurred on the Hoima-Kaiso-Tonya road in Kitoba Subcounty, involving motor vehicle reg.no. UBF 040W Double Cabin Toyota Hillux. The deceased have been identified as Daphne Kabahumuza, a Senior Four candidate who was from writing her UNEB papers.
Others are Bridget Tusabe of Senior Two and the school patron, Alfred Avutia. Comfort Murungi another Senior Four candidate was injured in the accident. She is now admitted at Hoima hospital. Julius Hakiza the Albertine region police spokesperson says the car being driven by the yet to be identified driver knocked a senke motorcycle reg.no.UDP 413Q, ridden by Avutia at Bulemwa. He died on the spot.
"The driver then lost control and the vehicle knocked the three pedestrians (students) killing two on the spot," Hakiza said adding that police is hunting for the driver who fled the scene and abandoned the vehicle. At the time of filing the story bodies had been taken to Hoima police mortuary and the wreckage towed to police.
The Hoima accident came just a day after another one on the Jinja-Kamuli highway in which five people were knocked dead by a sugarcane truck on Monday evening. The accident at Walumbe junction in Buwenge town council left scores injured.
