Tumwebaze, Moriku, 20 Others Appointed to the Parliamentary Appointments Committee
Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Frank Tumwebaze and State Minister for Health (General Duties), Joyce Moriku are among the 22 NRM MPs who have been nominated to sit in the Parliamentary Appointments Committee.
In a letter dated May 28th, NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba forwarded the 22 member committee to the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah.
Other NRM MPs who will sit on the Appointments Committee include; Dr Okullo Abuka (Lamwo), Betty Engola (Apac), Rose Akello Lilly (Karenga), Arinaitwe Rwakajara (Workers), Najjuma Sarah (Nakaseke), David Kabanda (Kasambya), Robinah Rwakojo (Gomba), Cissy Namujjju (Lwengo) and Irene Muloni (Bulambuli).
Others are; Catherine Mavenjina (Older persons), Benard Odoi (Youth Eastern), Alex Ndezi (PWD), Twalla Fadil (Tingey), Aeku Patrick (Soroti), Denis Orone (Gogonyo), Kubeketeria James (Bunya East), Diana Mutasingwa (Buikwe), Fred Kambale (Kasese), Sarah Mateke (Kisoro) and Dr Florence Asiimwe (Masindi).
It is a prerequisite for Parliament to constitute the Committee on Appointments because it is the one that vets all executive appointments including the pending cabinet that is expected to be named next week. The Rules of Procedure of Parliament dictate that the Speaker chairs the Appointments Committee deputized by Deputy Speaker.
The appointment of ministers Tumwebaze and Moriku to the Appointments Committee has left the public guessing on whether the two are set to be dropped from cabinet. However, in the event that any of the members on the Appointments Committee are appointed ministers, then the Party whip would replace them.
