Red Pepper football team has been docked 13 points and 13 goals for fielding ineligible players and causing a brawl respectively during last week’s 2nd round of the Corporate League games at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
The Hyena’s team led by Johnson Musinguzi Byarabaha were favorites in last Sunday’s outing before being docked 3 points and 3 goals after management established that the team had fielded several ineligible players most of whom are not Red Pepper staff but rather play for other professional football clubs such as the Saints- a club in the Big League.
The Hyenas fielded ineligible players during their game against Mengo Hospital. As if that was not enough, Red Pepper was also docked 10 points and 10 goals for causing a brawl during the mouthwatering encounter with Darling which ended in a dramatic goalless draw. In the middle of the tense game, a fan reportedly from Darling picked up a fight with a Red Pepper player that attracted flying jabs from both sides. As a result, the Darling team has been expelled from the league.
Meanwhile, Parliament press through their umbrella-Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA) has made their debut in the Corporate Games with a bang. Captained by Max Patrick Ocaido of Kampala Post news website, the Parliament press team suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat in their first game against Royal Van Zanten but bounced back with 1-0 victory against Mandela National Stadium. The parliament press later slipped into two other losses against Red Pepper and Cavendish University.
Parliament Press president, Moses Mulondo who is also a lethal midfielder for his team promised a better performance in the upcoming games.
According to Ian Rumanyika, the Corporate Games chairperson, the purpose of such a league is to “keep our corporates fit and get these people off their desks.”
“Corporate games have created a solution where these corporates come, have fun, keep healthy and give their organizations better value,” Rumanyika said in an interview with the New Vision. Currently, there are 24 companies registered in the corporate games and Rumanyika is hopeful that the number would grow to 36 by the end of the year. Corporate games are held in every first Sunday of the month and the next outing will be on May 05, 2019.
