Police said it received a total of 17,378 applicants that want to join as Probationary Police Constables (PPCs).

The applications were received from 28 regions, with the highest number of applicants coming from East Kyoga (Soroti), followed by North Kyoga (Lira), West Nile (Arua) and Bukedi (Tororo), according to CP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson.

Enanga says the lowest number of applicants came from Mt Moroto (Moroto), Katonga (Mpigi), Savanna (Luwero) and Wamala (Mityana).

The selection process is now underway.

“A competent recruitment team has commenced the selection process and we expect the best eligible candidates with very high standards to be selected,” he said.

“All successful applicants will be invited for oral and written interviews, where they must clearly demonstrate the wide range of personal qualities and attributes essential to becoming an officer with the UPF. These include highest levels of personal integrity, effective communication skills, personal effectiveness, proven level of physical fitness, a realistic appreciation of the roles and duties of a police officer, problem-solving skills and a strong desire for personal development. The date will be communicated accordingly.”

Training will be conducted at Kabale Police Training School.

“We expect the successful new police officers at PTS Kabalye during the month of November 2020, for their initial basic training course. For some of them, their journey has already begun and we congratulate them,” Enanga said.
