The Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda Ruhakana Rugunda on Wednesday opened a three day (3-day) service excellence exhibition week, highlighting achievements and different sectors of government expenditure in the 2018/19 National budget.
Officiating at the opening function at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, Rugunda said the exhibition aims at creating awareness and publicizing services, products, and innovations offered by the Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
He added that the service excellence week (National budget week) is also geared at enhancing effective service delivery and giving accountability to the public.
Rugunda revealed that in the ending Financial Year government had achieved in the areas of Universal Primary and Secondary Education, increased agricultural production, Youth Livelihood Programs, Women Fund and Elderly Fund, Northern Uganda Special Action Fund and providing sustainable peace and tranquility, among others.
The Prime Minister commended all exhibitors for turning up in big numbers, which he said shows their commitment to the public. The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), UZIMA natural mineral water, Operation Wealth Creation and UPDF spouses are among those show casing to the public what they offer.
“The Defence Ministry uses funds from Government for capacity building of its Officers and Men, paying salaries, constructing new and refurbishing old structures, purchasing equipment, and improving welfare of its personnel and their families among others,” said Defence Spokesperson Brigadier Richard Karemire.
The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija notes that the exhibition week will strengthen accounting procedures among the different organs of government. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Information Communication Technology, and Ministry of Wildlife and Tourism, are among the Ministries participating at this year’s exhibition.
The exhibition is being conducted under the theme “Industrialization for job creation and shared prosperity.”
