Akon Returns to Attend President Museveni's Swearing-in Ceremony
Senegalese music star Aliaune Damala Badara Akon is expected in the country for the swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni.
Akon who was in Uganda last month expressed his willingness to return for the 6th inauguration of Museveni who trounced singer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine in the recent general elections.
President Museveni won the Feb. 14 election with 58.64%, beating 10 other candidates, including the closest challenger, Bobi Wine, who had 34.83%. The swearing-in theme is 'Securing the Future.
According to the office of the Presidential advisor on diaspora issues, Akon is set to land in the country ahead of the ceremony on May 12.
Akon will be accompanied by 12 American celebrities.
Among those expected to come with Akon are actress Porsha Dyanne Williams, former NFL Players Israel Idonije, Andre Lamont Johnson, David Young among others.
Akon joins a long list of world leaders and Uganda's well-wishers that have started arriving in the country ahead of Mr. Museveni's inauguration.
Some of the leaders already in the country include Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and the Burundian President H.E Évariste Ndayishimiye among others.
While in the country last month, Akon together with his wife, Rozina Negusei praised Uganda for its beauty as they visited Queen Elizabeth National Park among other places.
Akon, who was then on a four-day visit to Uganda visited the president and the First Lady, Janet Museveni at their country home in Rwakitura. They also met several government leaders including the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander SFC Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
