AFCON 2019: Uganda Cranes Final Squad Released
By Thomas Odongo
The Uganda Cranes list of 23 players to the Total AFCON Finals in Egypt has been released Tuesday afternoon.
The list will be submitted to CAF on Tuesday to beat the deadline, which is that very day.
The shirt numbers have also been confirmed.
Before the squad was named, Uganda Cranes played to a goalless draw with Turkmenistan during an international friendly game played at the New York University stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday night.
The Abu Dhabi clash was a final litmus paper on some players but usual suspects like Denis Onyango, Faruku Miya, Khalid Aucho, Hassan Wasswa Mawanda, Joseph Benson Ochaya and the like were tipped to feature.
The continental showpiece is the 32nd edition and this year’s meet will run from Friday, June 21st, 2019 to Friday, July 19th, 2019 with Uganda playing its first Group A game on 22nd June against DR Congo.
Hosts, Egypt also happen to be Uganda’s Group mates alongside Zimbabwe.
Uganda’s will be making a back-to-back appearance at the AFCON after breaking a 39-year jinx of no qualification in 2016.
