Nakalema(32) and two others were arrested on October 29 by Kira Road Police Station for killing her little daughter by cutting off her private parts and slitting her uterus to remove the intestines. According to the postmortem report, the deceased Vivian Nalunga died of excessive bleeding.
Nakalema and her accomplices Annet Mwagale(42) and her mother Annet Mulindwa(68) have since been in detention, pending murder charges. In a message sent out to the media, Deputy Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango said the suspects would be arraigned in court today(Thursday).
“The woman who murdered her child plus two others will appear at City Hall Court at 2pm,” Onyango said.
After committing the heinous act, Nakalema together with Mwagale rushed the deceased to Mulago Causality Hospital where the doctors confirmed the baby had died due to excessive bleeding. According to the postmortem report, the baby's body was found with missing private parts, uterus and intestines to which a case was opened up at Mulago Causality Police Post vide SD: REF. 06/29/10/2018.
The hospital management then involved the area police in which the crime was committed leading to the arrest of Harriet Nakalema.
Upon arrest, police searched her home and detectives recovered intestines suspected to belong to the deceased fitted into the kitchen sink, a bucket and clothes soaked with blood. However, it was noted that the private parts and uterus were missing.
When questioned about what had happened to the little girl, the sobbing Nakalema told police that it was the devil that had cut her daughter into pieces. Mwagale, the other suspect however told the investigators that Nakalema had been paid by their sister Angella Rwensisi who lives in Canada to send her fresh body parts of a young baby for ritual purposes.
