UPDF Launches Devastating Air, Artillery Strikes on Main ADF Camps in Eastern DRC

Following the authorization of the Ugandan armed forces to enter the parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to hunt down ADF terrorists, UPDF troops have launched devastating air and artillery strikes on ADF main camps early Tuesday morning.

According to highly placed security sources, the UPDF strikes were launched in the Eastern DRC parts where ADF terrorists have been recruiting, training, and launching their attacks on Uganda and the region at large. 

The terrorist group is now officially affiliated with the Islamic State terror group that claimed twin blasts in Kampala recently.

Following the most recent attacks on Uganda, President Museveni said he was working with the neighbors to deal with those (terrorists) operating from outside.

"They have exposed themselves when we are more ready for urban terrorism. They will perish," Mr. Museveni said in a statement.
 

The Kampala Post is yet to establish the magnitude of the damage inflicted on the ADF but a top security source noted the early Tuesday morning strikes are "very devastating."

The air and artillery strikes were jointly launched by the UPDF and DRC's FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo).

On November 23, the Commander of the UPDF Land Forces Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba posted a video on his official Twitter handle showing UPDF light artillery in action against Alshabaab terrorists, probably hinting at what the ADF should expect.

"UPDF light artillery in action in Somalia recently. Many Al Shabaab terrorists were eliminated in that action. Uganda ni hatari sana!" Gen Kainerugaba tweeted.

This development confirms our story published on Sunday detailing the agreement between Uganda and DRC to jointly hunt down the ADF terrorists.

Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi finally accepted the request made by his Ugandan counterpart Gen Yoweri Museveni last week.

It should be remembered that two weeks ago, the ADF carried out twin suicide bombings in the middle of Kampala, moments after two other explosions; one in Komamboga where one person died and another on a passenger bus.

In the wake of recent attacks, it is believed that the Ugandan authorities increased the pressure on DRC to allow the UPDF to hunt the terrorists hiding in the DRC forests. 

The Kampala Post understands that Uganda has been trying for years to obtain the approval of the DRC  for this operation.
