The Uganda Police Chief Political Commissar AIGP Asan Kasingye has asked officers to teach Local Council authorities their roles as per the Local Government Act.
Kasingye, who this week visited Aswa sub region, together with the Community Policing team, emphasized need for cooperation between police and community leaders. He also challenged officers to exhibit a high level of humility in execution of their duties.
AIGP Kasingye and his team visited Gulu main market where they participated in a general cleaning exercise. He also met the Resident District Commissioner, Bishop of Gulu Diocese and the Northern Region Prisons Commander, before proceeding to Amuru District where he also interacted with officers and local leaders.
Top police bosses, including the IGP and his deputy are currently on countrywide tours, going through the various regions.During the tours, the police bosses are interacting with officers to discuss various issues affecting their work.The Deputy IGP Maj General Sabiiti Muzeyi was in this same Aswa Region a week ago, while IGP Martin Okoth Ochola was in North Busoga and Kiira regions last week.
The tours are aimed at improving professionalism, as officers preserve law and order and enhancing Uganda Police Force’s capability in emergency and rescue services. Among others, the tours also focus on strengthening traffic and road safety enforcement and education, promotion of community policing to increase public awareness and participation in crime prevention.
