President Yoweri Museveni congratulated Liz Truss on becoming the new UK Prime Minister.

President Museveni in a message sent via Twitter called for good working relationships, citing the relationship Uganda has established with the UK under the leadership of Boris Johnson.

"This is to congratulate the Rt. Hon. [ Liz Truss] for being appointed as the new Prime Minister of the UK. After decolonization, we have always had good working relations with the UK & by extension the Commonwealth," Museveni said.

"The Rt.Hon. Boris Johnson has been encouraging investments in Uganda and other Commonwealth countries. The big airport at Kabaale near Hoima, built with British funds, is one such example."

Museveni said Uganda looks forward to working closely with the new British leader.

"We, therefore, look forward to working closely with Rt. Hon. Liz Truss on the issues of Trade, Investment, Tourism, and Anti-terrorism," he said.

"By coincidence, I had the honour to sit next to and engage with the new Prime Minister whenever her predecessor walked out for side meetings.

President Yoweri Museveni and the UK State for International Trade Annie-Marie Trevelyan will on September 10 speak at the UK-Uganda Trade Summit, which is aimed at promoting trade and investment between the two countries, according to Uganda Investment Authority.

The Authority says the event will attract prominent industry leaders, investors and ministers from the UK and East Africa.

This will create a platform to forge new business deals, invest in bankable projects and reinforce economic relationships between the UK and Uganda, including the East African Community.
