Ugandan Chef Eyes New Guinness World Record for Longest Cooking Time
Celebrated Ugandan chef Mama D is set to achieve a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time.
Mama D, real name Dorcus Bashema Kirabo, who started cooking on December 23 has so far served 113 meals and cooked for 113 hours, 19 minutes, and 40 seconds.
She is cooking from Kira Town where several Ugandans have thronged to offer both moral and financial support. Some of the notable Ugandans that have rallied Mama D are singers Eddy Kenzo and Juliana Kanyomozi, socialite Judith Heard, comedian Anne Kansiime, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Tourism Board Lilly Ajarova, and businessman Amos Wekesa.
The longest cook-a-thon record for an individual is currently at 119 hours, 57 minutes and 16 seconds and was achieved by an Irish chef named Alan Fisher. He set this record from Matsue, Shimane, Japan after cooking from September 28 to October 3, 2023.
Fisher unseated the previous record holder, Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, who had seized the crown in June. Mama D says she is planning to cook for 121 hours.
Ugandans who have not been able to go to Kira have been sending their messages of support through different social media platforms.
