Events Promoter Bajjo Further Remanded as Bail is Denied

Buganda Road Court on Tuesday denied bail to music and events promoter Andrew Mukasa of Bajjo Events, sending him back on remand until July 5.
Bajjo is charged with offensive communication and incitement of violence against the person of the President, the charges he denies. Mukasa who was remanded last week had returned to court for the hearing of his bail application.
Through his lawyer Erias Lukwago, Bajjo presented three sureties including fellow events promoter Abbey Musinguzi alias Abitex, TV personality Aloysius Matovu Kiiza and DP’s Moses Bigirwa.
However, the prosecution led by Patricia Cingitho objected to the bail application on grounds that the investigating officer Detective AIP Imani Were had sworn an affidavit to the effect that Bajjo was likely to interfere with the investigations once granted bail and could commit further acts of incitement to violence.
Cingitho further objected to Bajjo’s sureties for submitting in court uncoordinated documents. Trial magistrate Stellah Ambilisi informed Bajjo and his lawyer Elias Lukwago that she needed ample time to study submissions raised by him and the DPP before making a ruling on bail.
Prosecution states that with an intention to disturb the peace and privacy of President Museveni, without any legitimate purpose, Bajjo who subscribes to the People Power pressure group, recorded a video in which he threatened to overthrow the government of Uganda before the year 2021. The message in Luganda was shared online.
The music promoter was arrested about two weeks ago at Centenary Park, shortly after he addressed a press conference over a marathon he planned reportedly to raise money to compensate Musician and Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) over canceled music concerts.
