The newly registered Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) political party will be officially launched on May 22.
The party founder and former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu made the revelation on Tuesday morning during a press conference at the ANT party headquarters in Bukoto, Kampala.
Muntu quit FDC in September last year, after nationwide consultations with various stakeholders. He quit after losing the opposition party’s presidency to Patrick Oboi Amuriat. The former Army Commander said he had left FDC due to what he called irreconcilable differences, and immediately embarked on the process to form his own.
Although the plan was to have the new political party launched by Christmas last year, this wasn’t possible until last week when the Electoral Commission finally granted ANT a certificate of registration. “We had promised to launch the alliance before Christmas. Unfortunately, the process of registration delayed. We would like to apologize," Gen Muntu said during the press conference.
