
Ugandan Athletes Chesang, Chelangat Qualify For World Championships, Olympics

Ugandan female runners, Stella Chesang and Sarah Chelangat qualified for the World Championships in Doha after putting up a stellar show at the FBK (Fanny Blankers-Koen) Games in Hengelo Netherlands.
At the same event, the duo also qualified for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Chesang finished 8th, breaking the National record in the 5,000 Meter heat. She finished with a winning time of 15.00.72 breaking Dorcus Inzikuru’s record of 15.05.30.
Meanwhile Chelangat finished 9th with a winning time of 15.01.39. Chesang, also Commonwealth gold medalist is now Uganda’s leading female surpassing Inzikuru’s record. The 2019 World Championships in Athletics kick off on Saturday, 28th September 2019 and end on Sunday, 6th October 2019.
It is the 17th edition of the IAAF World Championships and will be held in Doha, Qatar at the renovated multi-purpose Khalifa International Stadium. For the first time in the history of the event, sponsors of national teams will be permitted to appear on the kit that the athletes compete in.
Meanwhile the 2020 Summer Olympics, also officially known as the XXXII Olympiad will begin on Friday, 24th July and end on Sunday, 9th August.
