UPDF Children's End of Year Fete: CDF Muhoozi Challenges Parents on Proper Child Upbringing

posted onDecember 3, 2019

The Chief of Defense Forces Gen David Muhoozi has asked parents to nurture their children with good morals in order to groom them into good and responsible citizens in the future.

Gen Muhoozi was on Monday officiating at the UPDF end of year children’s party held at Makenke Barracks in Mbarara.

“As parents are we doing well our roles, do we inspire our children?" he said. General Muhoozi observed that children are the present and future leaders.

“For the UPDF we give young people area to fill our ranks for Uganda and for Africa. Therefore children need good mentoring, nurturing, good care, and require values when they are still young,” he emphasized.

He also emphasized the importance of the family and how it touches the hearts and minds of soldiers. “Family is at the core of our work, focus and stability on duty. It gives purpose to our existence as human beings and is the foundation for strong society and country. Stable family means stable, effective output on duty” he observed.

The annual UPDF calendar activity was started by then CDF Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala in 2016 (Bombo Barracks) to recognize the presence of UPDF children in Uganda.

The CDF however, noted that resource constraints limit similar celebrations in other barracks.

“Now we can only do two parties utmost at the same time. This year it’s Mbarara and Masindi and we shall do other two in another year” he explained.

On his part, the outgoing 2nd division commander, Maj Gen. Kayanja Muhanga thanked the CDF for supporting and gracing the children’s end of year party. “Because these children are our future when we are long gone these are the children that are going to replace us” he said.

A similar function will be held in Masindi Barracks on Tuesday.
