There is no clear account of events on how State minister for Water Ronald Kibuule’s twins drowned in a family swimming pool after it emerged that CCTV cameras were switched off.
According to a family friend who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity, there is no clear narrative on how the two-year-old twins; Raymon Kato and Rayden Wasswa drowned at their palatial home in Mbalala, Mukono district.
Apparently, the kids drowned in the evening at the time when minister Kibuule was still in a cabinet meeting while their mother [Kibuule’s first wife] was away supervising construction works elsewhere.
“The maid is said to have been busy in the kitchen as the kids wandered to play in the compound. It is suspected that one of the kids fell in the pool and as he fought for his life the other twin could have also jumped in the pool in an attempt to rescue his brother,” a family source said adding that Kibuule regularly swam with his kids.
The source added that it has become difficult to ascertain the circumstances under which the twins drowned because the CCTV cameras had been switched off when the tragic incident happened.
“There is no clear narrative on how they [kids] died because the CCTV cameras had gone off since there was no power,” the source added.
The source added that Kibuule loved his twins so much that he had built a storied house with two separate floors for each kid. By press time, the twins’ bodies were still at Mulago Mortuary for postmortem. The burial ceremony for the twins will take place tentatively on Wednesday at the family ancestral home in Kapeke, Mukono.
On Monday night, several dignitaries including fellow politicians flocked Kibuule’s home to commiserate with him. Among them include; Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa, Ministry of ICT PS Vincent Bagiire and others. Several others have poured their heartfelt condolences to the minister urging him to stay strong.
“It is with great sadness that I learnt about the tragic passing of Honourable Kibuule’s children. May God comfort your family in this difficult time my brother,” tweeted Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations.
Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda tweeted saying, “Have learnt with deep shock, the tragedy that has befallen Hon Kibuule & family-- the drowning of your/our innocent children. We stand in solidarity with you during this trying period & pray to the almighty God to comfort you, and rest the souls of our twins in eternal peace.”
