Police Officer Pictured Drunk in Uniform Faces Dismissal

The Police in Busoga East sub-region has charged its regional ICT Maintenance Officer ASP Yaser Okot Masinde, with discreditable conduct.

The officer who suffers from a medical condition of diabetes but also continues to drink irresponsibly, was last week photographed while drunk in uniform and lying irresponsive in his compound at Muwayo village in Bugiri district.

The photo was leaked on social media to portray a negative image of the Uganda Police Force. Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says the same officer had earlier on Christmas Eve been recorded in a video while drunk in uniform and dancing with two bottles of beer in his hands.

“This conduct is completely unacceptable in the force,” Enanga said, adding: “As an organization we expect the highest level of discipline and professionalism from every officer.”

According to Enanga ASP Okot has been charged with discreditable conduct, which upon conviction as per the Police code of conduct attracts punishment ranging from reprimand to dismissal from the force.
