The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, Moses Kahima has won the Ruhaama Count By-election with a landslide victory.

Kahima was last evening declared winner defeating three independent candidates.
According to the results announced by the Ntungamo District electoral commission registrar Robert Beine, Kahima got 31,102 votes while his closest challenger Jackson Mubangizi Kabeikire got 16,345 votes.

Dr Peninah Beinomugisha Jambo got 2,103 while Vastine Orishaba Byarugaba posted 523 votes. The above number represents a total of 50,073 vote cast.

Prior to the election, President Museveni who is the NRM party chairman and the First Lady Janet Museveni, also chairperson of the NRM party in Ntungamo vigorously campaigned for Kahima despite the NRM facing no competition from other political parties.

The seat fell vacant last year after the former MP William Zinkuratiire succumbed to the deadly Hepatitis B.
