Retired Maj. Gen. Kasirye Ggwanga says he is ready to support Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations if he comes out openly for Presidency.

The maverick retired army general and Presidential advisor on security in Buganda says Gen Kainerugaba is presidential material and he would definitely have his support if he contested for the top political seat.

“Let him [Gen Kainerugaba] come out for himself. He is a General, he has the training from Sandhurst that convinces me that he can be a leader,” Ggwanga said on Monday morning while appearing on the NBSTV Morning Breeze talk-show.

The outspoken former NRA war combatant also praises Lt Gen Kainerugaba as a Hitech military officer that suits the current trend.

“The military today is not the military yesterday, me when I was shooting bombs I used to use a compass and a protractor, today they are using GPS,” he said.

Gen Ggwanga joins a list of Ugandans, especially the youth who have always called on Gen Kainerugaba to stand for President. Many have opened social media groups as a mobilization tool for the man they say inspires them. Gen Kainerugaba has meanwhile maintained that he is comfortable serving in the military as of now. Military laws bar serving officers from engaging in partisan politics.

Who is Gen Kainerugaba?

Born on April 24, 1974, Lieutenant General Muhoozi Kainerugaba is a military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations. He was previously commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), a highly-trained unit responsible for protecting the President and strategic state installations and resources like the oil in the Albertine graben among others.
