Police in Hoima are searching for a private security guard over shooting dead a person in Hoima municipality, Hoima district.

The deceased who is alleged to be a lunatic was shot dead on Sunday evening at around 6:30pm.

The suspect has been identified as Ben Ndiwawe attached to Pinnacle security Ltd.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson said Ndiwawe, a guard at Bank of Africa, Hoima Branch shot dead the mentally ill man.

Hakiza says police reports indicate that the deceased first hit the security guard with a stick he was moving with and in retaliation, the guard shot him on the neck. He died on spot. The body was taken to Hoima police morgue.

After the incident, the guard abandoned the gun registered with the number UG PSO 320020604969 containing four rounds of ammunition, a uniform and company shoes and ran to unknown destinations.

Hakiza said investigations are still underway adding they are hunting for the suspect to answer charges of murder.

The cyclist later succumbed to bullet wounds at Hoima regional referral hospital.

In the same month, a policeman attached to Oil and Gas Unit at Nyairongo police post shot dead his wife, Hasifa Tumuhairwe following a family wrangle.
