KAMPALA. Flight Capt. Mike Mukula has ruled out any possibilities of serving as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, a position currently held by Justine Kasule Lumumba.
A section of media last week reported that the former health minister is being prepared to replace Lumumba as NRM SG as she is reportedly destined for a ministerial position.
Media reports indicated that Mukula, who is also the NRM vice chairperson for Eastern Uganda is set to be appointed NRM SG by the NRM chairperson President Yoweri Museveni.
In 2014, the NRM top leadership while meeting at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole gave the party chairman powers to appoint the Secretary General and other officials to run the party secretariat.
However, the flamboyant veteran politician told Kampala Post in a brief statement that he cannot take up the NRM Secretariat top job if the media speculations are anything to go by.
“I can’t [take up SG job]. I am doing extremely well in the private sector,” Mukula told Kampala Post.
It should be noted that Mukula quit elective politics in 2016 after serving as Soroti Municipality MP since 2001.
Mukula has been concentrating on his private businesses that among others include Uganda Aviation School-the first private aviation school to open doors in Uganda.
Despite channeling efforts to private sector, Mukula has remained a loyal NRM cadre who has on several occasions offered himself to mediate between warring parties on behalf of government.
He played a big role in mediating between the Rwenzururu kingdom and government and recently, he has been at the helm of resolving the conflict between Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and junior Lands minister Persis Namuganza.
