The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) announced on Tuesday that it would start issuing national IDs at the sub-county level.

NIRA says it will be doling out IDs to people whose cards are ready but have not been picked.

The exercise will be carried out for 15 days in all the districts, starting November 23 until December 7.

"Details on venues for the issuance exercise shall be defined by the respective NIRA district teams working in collaboration with the district leadership," Gilbert Kadilo, the manager of public relations and corporate affairs at NIRA, said.

The Authority says it will avail lists of persons who'll be getting IDs to LCI chairpersons to ensure effectiveness.

According to NIRA, children who registered under the ‘registration of learners’ programme and had made 16 years at the time will also be issued their National IDs during the exercise.

It is important to note that you need an ID to acquire a passport, a driving permit, and a number of other crucial services.
