Bunyoro Marks 24th Coronation Anniversary

The function is underway at Karuzika Palace in Hoima town and hundreds of Bunyoro’s subjects are lining up to attend the event. Several Dignitaries among them central government Ministers, local government leaders and representatives of the various cultural institutions are already in attendance.

HOIMA. Uganda’s Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda is in Bunyoro to preside over the 24th coronation anniversary (Empango) for King Solomon Gafabusa Iguru.

The function is underway at Karuzika Palace in Hoima town and hundreds of Bunyoro’s subjects are lining up to attend the event. Several Dignitaries among them central government Ministers, local government leaders and representatives of the various cultural institutions are already in attendance.

The Prime Minister is representing President Yoweri Museveni who was expected to grace the function.

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has also attended the event.

Omukama Iguru ascended the throne in 1994 following restoration of Kingdoms by the NRM government. Kingdoms were abolished by the Obote II government in 1967.

Empango is an annual cultural event in Bunyoro and Tooro to mark the day the reigning king ascended the throne. The event is normally characterized by performance of cultural rituals done at the time of the king’s enthronement.
