KAMPALA. Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze has been arrested. The opposition DP legislator was picked up by police from her home in Mukono on Wednesday morning and whisked to Jinja Road Police Station, where she is still being held.
On Tuesday, the Police said Nambooze is under investigation over utterances surrounding slain Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.
Police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima confirmed that Police was in possession of voice recordings of different people that are offensive in nature which is in breach of the Computer Misuse Act.
“The Uganda Police is investigating these recordings including two posts by Hon Betty Nambooze Bakireke, MP Mukono Municipality. Already four General Enquiry Files have been opened at CID Headquarters,” SSP Kayima said.
Nambooze recently took to her social media accounts and among others explained how Abiriga was an easy target even in presence of his bodyguards. Police thinks that apart from inciting the public, Nambooze could be having vital leads to the murder of Abiriga.
DP’s Nambooze is on record for disturbing the peace of Abiriga last year when she snatched the cap of the deceased MP during the age limit debate.
Among the case files that Police has opened include; inciting violence and disturbance of the dead (GEF 18/2018,), malicious damage where police motorcycle, UP 6531 and motor vehicle-No UAN 360N were burnt to ashes on files CRB1819/18 and A/CRB 1821/2018 respectively.
Abiriga and his brother Saidi Kongo, also his bodyguard were on Friday brutally assassinated near his home in Kirinnyabigo, Kawanda, Wakiso district. Since then, Police together with its sister security agencies have continued to pursue the criminals.
