Uganda Removed from UK's Red List

Uganda is among 47 countries that were Thursday removed from the UK travel red list, implying people moving from Uganda to the European nation will no longer need to spend 11 nights in a quarantine hotel at a cost of £2,285 for solo travellers.

The development will come into effect at 4am on Monday.

The UK embassy in Uganda said it was working with the health ministry to facilitate the acquisition of vaccination certificates that are recognised by its government.

"Great news that [Uganda] is no longer on the red list for travel to the UK," the embassy tweeted Thursday evening.

"We are working closely with the [Ministry of Health] on the next step to get [Uganda] vaccination certificates, for vaccines recognized by the UK, accepted for travel."

According to the UK government, fully vaccinated people entering England from these countries off the red list will be exempt from quarantine, the pre-departure test and the day-eight post-arrival test.

Uganda has already secured over 5.5 million doses of Covid vaccines and over 2.2 million doses have already been administered.
