Uganda Police Assess Personnel Ahead of Deployment in Somalia

Formed Police Assessment Team has camped at Kabalye Police Training School in Masindi to assess the Uganda Police personnel, due for deployment in Somalia.

The officers being assessed have been undergoing a one-year training in Peace Keeping. 160 police officers will be selected after the assessment and will be deployed in Somalia (AMISOM) by the end of July 2019.

The assessment exercise is led by Commissioner of Police Benjamin Namanya, the Deputy Director Peace and Support of Uganda Police Force.

“Assessment started on June 19, 2019, and ends on June 23, 2019, whereby Police Officers are tested in different areas like driving, report writing, public order management, operational maneuvers, and marksmanship,” the police said in a brief statement.

Uganda first deployed officers of the Formed Police Unit in 2012. Officers from the Formed Police Unit provide oversight to patrols in Mogadishu and the Federal Member States, to ensure the maintenance of law and order, train their Somali counterparts and contribute to public order management; participate in cordon and search operations; and provide VIP protection services, among other tasks.
