Gen Kainerugaba Urges Karamoja Cattle Rustlers to Join Modern Farming
As part of his ongoing tour of the Karamoja region, the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has visited the Nabuin Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute.
The institute is one of the nine Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institutes (ZARDIs) of the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO). Its coverage extends over eight districts in the Teso sub-region and seven in the Karamoja sub-region.
The staff at NARO explained the various innovations they have come up with to help the Karamojong people improve their farming practices.
Gen Kainerugaba who is also the Commander of the UPDF Land Forces thanked them for their great work and for supplementing UPDF's security work by demonstrating to the Karamojong people that modern farming techniques are much more profitable and safer than cattle rustling.
On Thursday, Gen Kainerugaba kicked off his tour with a visit to the 3rd Infantry Division in Moroto where he held several meetings with local leaders with the view of ascertaining the status of troops in tackling the ongoing revived efforts towards disarming Karamojong warriors.
In a meeting at the Division Headquarters in Moroto with the division leadership and other stakeholders, Lt Gen Kainerugaba observed that the government has so far made deliberate efforts towards building and sustaining peace, security and stability in Karamoja Sub-region.
According to a statement released by the UPDF Spokesperson Brig Flavia Byekwaso, the CLF cautioned civilians with illegal guns to stop livestock theft and urged them to join government and UPDF efforts towards pacifying the region for transformation to take root.
