Maate says Police are still investigating the cause of the fire, “but the colleagues say he has been a known drunkard, a smoker and used a paraffin lamp for lighting.”

KANUNGU. The Police in Kanungu district are investigating circumstances under which a UPDF soldier was burnt to death.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Polices Spokesperson says RA204149 Private Swaleh Waka Bakali, 38years old attached to 307 Brigade Mburameizi Barracks was on Tuesday night found burnt to death in his grass thatched hut.

The deceased was on night guard at Kiruruma water treatment plant at the time. Bakali’s death was reported to police by his colleague, Captain Ann Kayiira.

Maate says Police are still investigating the cause of the fire, “but the colleagues say he has been a known drunkard, a smoker and used a paraffin lamp for lighting.”

The body has been taken for postmortem, as investigations continue under Kihihi Police Station CRB 535/2018
