2600 More LDU Personnel Start Military Training

A total of 2600 recently recruited Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel started training at Olilim Military Training School in Katakwi district.

According to Defence.go.ug, the training will last six months and 446 of the recruits are females.

The recruitment is "aimed at boosting the overall security situation in the country," reads a statement on the website

Briefing the LDUs on Monday, the Deputy Commander of the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) Thirds Infantry Division Brig ES Okolong called for conscious discipline, sacrifice, perseverance, and patriotism, among other core values.

He also advised them to train hard so as to fight easily.

"Avoid being careless and be creative throughout the training," he said.

The Commandant of Olilim Military Training School Lt Col Eria Mugasa called for vigilance and cooperation between students and instructors for the success of the training.

On October 18, another group of 2650 Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel commenced training at Labworodong Military Training School in Agago district.
