Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has vowed to close bars, entertainment areas, and places of worship over noise pollution.

In a notice issued on Saturday, KCCA has warned the mentioned facilities for continuously emitting noise “beyond permissible levels” despite notifications of the regulations.

This, according to the city authorities, contravenes the National Environment (Noise standards and Control regulations), 2003 and would lead to closure of facility, revocation of licence, confiscation of tools and prosecution of offenders.

“Henceforth, KCCA shall not renew trading licences to bars and entertainment places which have been issued with cease and desist orders,, stop notices and have defiantly continued committing the offence,” the statement reads.

Regulation 6 of the National Environment (Noise standards and Control regulations), 2003 establishes the permissible noise levels, whilst regulation 7 States that subject to these Regulations, no person shall, for an activity specified in regulation 6, emit noise in excess of the permissible noise level, unless permitted by a licence issued under these Regulations and under regulation 7(2), any person who contravenes sub-regulation (1) commits an offence.
