Mao Dismisses Reports of Stepping Down from DP Presidency as Hogwash
Norbert Mao has dismissed reports claiming that he is considering stepping down as President of the Democratic Party (DP) as mere hogwash.
The New Vision newspaper had quoted party members, including Dr Lulume Bayiga, hinting that Mao might announce his decision on relinquishing his leadership role before the end of February.
Speculations have been rife within the party ranks after the DP entered into a cooperation agreement with President Museveni's ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). In the agreement, it was revealed that Mao sought to galvanize Ugandans and ensure a smooth transition from Museveni to the next leader, while assuming the role of Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. Additionally, the DP was expected to lend support to NRM positions in parliament.
However, in a response on social media platform X to the New Vision's article, Mao simply dismissed the claims as 'hogwash'.
This statement from Mao indicates that he has no intentions of stepping down as DP President.
